The major active ingredient of Comfrey is Comfrey's rhizome which contains the alkaloid allantoin, a substance used in dermatology for its healing properties. The rhizome of this plant also contains a mucilage, which is an ideal emollient and tranquiliser for skin abrasions. Comfrey cream penetrates the skin easily without leaving a greasy film, protecting and nourishing and has a regenerative effect on wrinkled and ageing skin. It increases the circulation to the skin and associated tissues and thus refreshes tired skin.
